Wisdom teeth removal is probably the most common – and necessary – form of oral surgery. If not addressed, impacted wisdom teeth often cause other issues such as TMJ (temporomandibular joint syndrome) pain, dysfunction of the jaw, gum infections, and even cysts or tumors. Your mouth can fit 28 teeth comfortably, so when your wisdom teeth (third molars) come in last, it can create problems. Overcrowding and infections around impacted wisdom teeth can result in tooth decay and eventual bone loss. Wisdom teeth extraction is an outpatient procedure that usually takes less than two hours.
If you’re missing teeth, dental implants may be the restorative solution you’re seeking to deliver a healthy, beautiful smile for life. The American Dental Association endorses two forms of implants, endosteal implants, and subperiosteal implants, with both options providing strong, lasting results.
